What Is A Forklift License
A forklift license is a certificate that is issued by an authorized training provider to a forklift operator who successfully completes a forklift safety course and examination. The forklift certification says that he/she is qualified to operate a forklift safely in the workplace.
Certification must meet the safety requirements of the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA).
Having a forklift certificate ensures that the certificate holder is able to handle a forklift properly and safely in the workplace. An employer must arrange for classroom theory education and practical training for all operators.
All certificates must have the name of the operator, training dates, the date of an evaluation, and the trainer who performed the training and evaluation.
Does A Forklift License Expire
Forklift certifications are valid for 3 years. After three years, you will need theory and practical reassessment in order to get recertified and be able to continue to operate a forklift in compliance with Ontario’s safety regulations.Â
Forklift Safety should be taken very seriously as a forklift is a very heavy and powerful machine capable of lifting extremely heavy loads. Having the proper training ensures the operator is a compliant and knowledgeable forklift operator and abides by all safety regulations set by the MOL (Ministry of Labor) and the Canadian Safety association.
Training should only be conducted by an authorized trainer who has been trained in accordance with government regulations. Having a competent trainer will ensure that the training provided will meet or exceed training expectations.Â

Who Needs the Training To Operate A Forklift
Any person that wants to operate a forklift needs specific training on the machine that they will be using, just because you are certified to operate one type of forklift does not allow you to operate any type of forklift.Â
That is why training is required so you know what types of forklifts you can operate.
Training needs to be specific to the type of machine that you want to operate so choosing what type of forklift you want training on is important.
